EU State Aid Law
EU state aid law protects free competition in the internal market by prohibiting financial or other monetary benefits by the Member States to companies or branches of production. It is irrelevant whether the recipient of the benefits is a private company or a publicly owned company.
Opportunities for state support to enterprises are multifaceted and the risks (in particular the repayment obligation) are high. In addition, it is important to observe a number of exception rules.
